Vision for 2009
When we first began working in Africa, we divided the resources we had amoung eight different orphanages. After examining the conditions of each orphanage we have relationship with we have chosen to work more closely with Faith orphanage.
Out of each orphanage we have worked with, Faith is the one we feel currently is in the most need. Their dorm rooms are overcrowded, they do not have a proper school room and the children in this home are malnourished.
It is our aim to see Faith brought out extreme poverty within 3 years.
We are working towards this through agricultural training, improving their living conditions and ensuring they receive a proper education and are given the tools, and resources to see that happen.
It is our goal that if we can see Faith Orphanage become self-sustainable from their farm, and see their living conditions improve we will be able to use their success as a model for the other orphanages we are connected with.
Current Projects
New School for Faith Orphanage
We have been raising funds to build Faith orphanage a new school. On November 8th we reached our fundraising goal and construction will begin in the next few weeks. Return again soon to see futher updates on the progress.
Container Project
We have been overwhelmed by the response by the International community in Beijing. Since early fall we have received truckloads of furniture for the dorm rooms, as well as bookshelves, desks and chairs, English books for the new school. We have also received hundreds of pounds of clothing. There are currently two International schools collecting school supplies for this container project. We are well on our way to filling a 40 foot container and hope to be able to send it off by mid December. We are still raising funds for the cost of the container.
Faith Farm
In June 2009 we began the agricultural training program at Faith Orphanage. On their orphanage site; Faith has over 25 acres of land that can be used for farming. The land is jungle brush, but beneath is rich soil. We have employed 3 men from the local village to clear the land and to work on the farm. We also contracted an instructor from the Agricultural University in Liberia to train the men in successful farming techniques. He lived on the farm for one month training the men how to properly clear the land, to plant, build a nursery, as well as fertilization and harvesting techniques.
